Process Posts: About my Blog

Updated: Mar 1

My community guidelines

The community guidelines on my website/blog are simple: No hate comments, no trolling and no spamming of uncomfortable information, no viruses or malware, also absolutely no hacking allowed.

In Pub 101 April 4, 2023 class today, the professor lectured and emphasized protecting your personal information.

This is the most important part for users and content creators, to avoid being hacked information privacy and protection guidelines are helpful.

Online Comments

Konnikova discusses how online comments can change how a person views another user's blog, story, or online content. Friendly comments versus malicious comments can affect the user and the viewer (Konnikova, 2013). With this in mind, I am careful about what I am creating and posting on my blog to avoid malicious comments from users.

Content

Genshin's (2023) constant version updates have allowed me to create content for this personal blog.

Genshin is actually a very popular game, trending worldwide like League of Legends and Fortnite. Genshin's (2023) characters, updates, and character lore always are trending on various social media platforms. This can be seen on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, aikTok, also Youtube.

Google Ad-sense

I installed Google Ad-sense it should work on here. To be honest, I am not a fan of ads myself, they can be repetitive and annoying. So I understand and relate to some of the viewers and users out there who don't like seeing ads. I hope Google Ad Sense doesn't drop a pile of ads onto people who view my website. Also besides repetitive ads to watch out for, beware of fake news that can appear alongside ads. Marwick and Rebecca discuss information and disinformation online. Influencers, politicians, and celebrities all have the power to share what they want at the same time be able to control the content and sometimes the audience (Marwick & Lewis, 2017).

Chat GBT

Will I ever use Chat GBT or other AI to post some content up here?

The answer is yes, not a lot and I will cite the website as always. A citation for example is this OpenAI (2022) citation below. Might post the chat between me and a Xiao Character AI for fun soon.

I don't plan on monetizing my personal blog yet, because I still need to figure out what can be commercialized and what should be just posted for fun only.

Google Ads

Ads are among the many ways to create profit on a website, as well as donations (Bleymaier, 2013). Donations can let other viewers save money and are optional, which means the readers don't always have to spend money to view someone's blog (Bleymaier, 2013). The donation idea sounds like a more friendlier option to take, I might do that for this website in the future, where profit is a small, optional route for the future of this blog. Bleymaier (2013) cites Maria Popova in the article, arguing that it is entirely the blogger's or user's decision as to whether or not to place ads on their page.

Pod Academy in the 2016 article defines digital footprint, calling it "breadcrumbs," that users leave behind. Through the breadcrumbs left behind by people online in the digital world, ads on the internet can track them from the sites they've used, searched, and subscribed to (Pod Academy, 2016). This makes ad companies target the user easier, and this is the reason ad blockers exist out there if people want to reduce the number of trackings on the internet (Pod Academy, 2016).

Will I use Google Ads?!

If I do plan on making a little bit of money from my personal blog, KPOP, Pub 101, and probably the CMNS categories will not be commercialized. This means these 3 categories will not be used for profit.

Genshin (Hoyoverse, 2023) does allow players to make money using their game whether it is for art in any form or for streaming, as well as blogging. Also traveling. Only 2 categories I will probably put ads in or monetize, which are Genshin Impact content and traveling. Although that will be in the future. For now, everything is just for entertainment, for fun.

Professor Trevor Bateman provided a great lecture today in the March 14, 2023 class. Professor Bateman explains how you can monetize almost anything on the internet and make profits. I was able to learn so much from his online lecture.

Pub 101 Process Post 1-5, 10

Week 1 Process Post: Talking to a stranger/someone new

Met a new friend today in class. Meeting and speaking with a stranger/someone new can make us feel nervous, but it is also an interesting feeling as Hamblin (2016) argued in his blog. When I met someone new in class today, I felt nervous and I'm sure we sometimes all feel we are strangers ourselves to someone who we just met. It is normal to feel that way because I don't know the other person but it's always nice to meet new friends whether it is in class or the workplace, or even when traveling. I consider I know a person well when it has been more than 2 weeks or so, and I have either spoken to them in person or communicated with them online like texting once in a while or often. Meeting someone new in person can be more scary and nerve-racking than online, which is the reason I prefer texting someone first and then meeting in person (face to face) if it is a stranger/new friend I just met.

Process Post 2

This week and last week, I decided to re-open this website. I categorized my posts that were on here and also added some photos for the category. I also switched the image on my front page, to make it more appealing. For the About section, I wanted to change some things about myself, more up-to-date and current so it gives a fresh look to the website. Most of my images were from what is saved on my phone, the games I play, and my social media. I plan to upload a lot of photos as the weeks go on for specific categories. I am creating this website for fun, and to share about myself, freely posting things for fun and entertainment, just a simple personal blog.

Campbell (2009) argues the importance of cyberinfrastructure, and how students should create their websites to connect with others and learn more about what they are learning and share their learning through the website or to start their careers. Even my Communication courses have mentioned the term "cyberinfrastructure," which allows people to create websites to communicate and connect with others. Cyberinfrastructure is not just simply a website, it is also about the connection, and what people will do with the information and communicate with others (Campbell, 2009).

Some categories I created are: Pub 101 where I will be posting the Process posts, Genshin Impact where it will be usual postings of my in-game experience as part of my blog, Kpop-one of my favorite music genres and group thoughts will be posted;, and rare times will post CMNS posts which are writings and thoughts about my Communication degree at SFU.

I also have many social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Category: Welcome to PUB101 #posiel » The Publication of Self in Everyday Life This website would be my personal blog where I share stuff about myself.

Process Post 3

Pub 101-related posts will be mostly here, although if there is a Pub 101 post that relates to Genshin, it can also be found in the Genshin Impact category I created. Many of my blog posts up here are written from my perspective, and trying to maintain some of this academic setting and writing, while also being a better version of myself online. My view is my own and as a Communication student from the School of Communication at SFU, my blogs in Pub 101 will sound a bit academic but also like any blog post. The reason is I am so used to writing from a Communication scholar's perspective that it is sometimes the way we students write is always in this critical view and this sort of accuracy that exists when it comes to long paragraphed papers or even blog posts. I also plan to include some pictures in process posts, mini assignments, or gaming posts. I will also include links to my social media, mainly my Instagram where I get most of my followers. The whole purpose of this website is for me to share about myself and also my gaming experience, and my passion. I am not sure if I want to make this a commercial/business website, I will think about that later on.

My Audience

To be honest, I don't request a big audience for this blog, because this blog is personal and simple. It shares about myself, my passion and hobbies, and also my university journey here at SFU (Simon Fraser University). Warner (2002) defines the public in many different ways, depending on what content and people are there visiting people's blogs, everyone is different and has their own views and thoughts (p.417-421). My audience would be friends and some strangers who are curious about my blog and are interested in Genshin or Kpop, also Communications major. My website is open for public space, and Warner (2002) stated the public would consist of mostly strangers and also people we may know (p.416-417). My website is for anyone rho just wants to see something casual or read something on the go, that is the reason I try not to write too much on my posts up here.

Warner (2002) discussed that the online network or website people create isn't always addressed to the public, but also to themselves, which suggests the network they create or content is speaking about the poster themselves (p.417-418). This would be the same as my blog posts, meaning they aren't just being addressed to the public but also to myself and iarespeaking about myself. The public can be personal and impersonal (Warner, 2002, p.417). My blog speaks to myself, and also to others, I hope this website will reach the Genshin Impact (Hoyoverse, 2023) community and also some people who are part of the School of Communication at SFU.

I know who my audience is, they would be just about anyone, and those interested in Kpop or Genshin. For my editorial process, I have Grammarly (2023), a free spell-checking tool to help check spelling and grammar. I sometimes proofread my own blog posts, to double-check that I am delivering the right content. Basu (2020) discusses "digital gardens" where the internet and the blog are where people share, grow and create online.

Grammarly

Grammarly (2023) is also a great tool to use for your essays, so instead of getting someone else to proofread your assignment, it is better to use Grammarly because it quickly corrects your spelling and polishes your grammar, making your paper look better. Grammarly (2023) sometimes also gives suggestions when correcting your grammar, by suggesting a more common word or better-sounding word. I would argue that Grammarly (2023) is an AI tool and not an AI tool at the same time, it seems to be a free tool used to double-check your spelling and grammar, it doesn't write your essay for you, therefore this tool would be less in the gray area.

Process Post 10

Google Analytics

Google Analytics collects information and data about the blog or website of the user to view and help them know about their blog and their audience (Hollingsworth, 2018). It can be used to grow audiences, and gaming media is a great way to bring more audiences (Data.ai, 2022, p.20). SEO stands for search engine optimization, and helps users find and filter search results (Hollingsworth, 2018; Data. ai,2022).

Views Don't Matter, Content and Engagement Does (Data.ai, 2022; Hollingsworth, 2018)

Genshin Impact (Hoyoverse, 2023) would be a popular mobile game, and PC game users and viewers would choose to play (Data. ai, 2020, p.20). To be honest I did not pay much attention to Google Analytics or Google Ad-sense because my blog is personal and for entertainment only, more casually orientated. This blog was created for fun and to share about myself and my passion and hobbies.

I revisited some old blog posts today and also checked the views. I am not worried about the number of views because this is a personal blog after all.

Citations

Copyright, Creative Commons, and Royalty-Free music or content, are all important aspects in content creation or generating content

As communication major students, we were taught to use APA citations and also MLA citations. Citation is important because it is always good to cite the author or scholar, that the writer is telling the reader that this is an idea from someone else that they want to share, and at the same time they are giving credit to the author or professional (Younging, 2015). It's better to paraphrase than to copy straight from the content, as argued by many professors, TAs, and authors like Younging (2015). In-text citations and reference lists should always be included in essays or academic work, pand apers. I usually put a reference list at the end of the essay or the bottom of the blog below all the text and sentences.
